The aim of this Progress Check is to help parents and practitioners ensure each child is given every opportunity to fulfil their potential. The check is a summative assessment completed by Practitioners at 2 years and one month for children who currently attend the setting. This is to ensure the Key Person and parents have the opportunity to discuss the check prior to the child's 2 years and 3 months appointment with the Health Visitor.
For children who start attending Nursery in their third year (between 24 and 36 months) their Progress Check will be completed after they have been at Noah's Ark for approximately three months. This will ensure that the individual child has had adequate time to settle, and that the Key Person has had opportunity to appreciate the child's uniqueness, assess their progress, and plan their 'next steps' effectively.
The Progress Check will concentrate on the three prime areas of development:-
- Personal, Social and Emotional
- Communication and Language
- Physical Development
However, there will also be some focus on the specific areas of:
- Expressive Arts and Design
- Understanding the World
Our aim in completing the Check is to ensure that, together with parents, we can support the child and fully understand their needs. The Check will be under-pinned by observations, comments from parents/carers, and contributions from the individual child, so that collectively we create an informed picture which will identify the child's learning priorities, and in turn enable the Practitioners to plan appropriate and motivating learning opportunities for each child.
As a Nursery we really value the “parents/carers voice" and feel that communication is of paramount importance in ensuring we meet a child's requirements successfully. This is particularly so with regard to the Progress Check where the more information we have from parents, the more accurate picture we can provide.
